I am going to tell you a true story of unlikelihood. In and around the 1700 the British sailors would take to the open waters of the sea for numerous reasons. While out on their voyage their men would become ill and many would die. Actually most would die. The symptoms were large discolored spots over the whole surface of the body. Swelling of the legs, bleeding of the gums, decreased red blood cell count, lack of strength, anxiety, and depression.<br />
As the story goes while out on one of these adventures a storm arose and after losing control of their ship they were tossed onto a deserted island. Now it turned out that the island was not deserted but inhabited with island people. The inhabitants of the island after seeing the condition of the British sailors started given them limes which grew abundantly there. To their great surprise the sailors started improving all became better all survived. They said this is a miracle we have to go back and spread the word.<br />
Upon returning home they told what had happened to them and many believed and made sure some lime juice was on board the ship whenever they sailed. But eventually after so many years the idea was lost. After all to think a simple fix like lime juice cured a mammoth problem like scurvy was ridiculous. Especially to the medical community which believed elaborate problems needed complex solutions. We all know the end of the story they did go back to the simple belief that limes or vitamin C did indeed cure scurvy. Did I mention it took 400 years before this happened. Ok so what is the point of this story.<br />
<br />
You are the sailors instead of scurvy you have agoraphobia, full blown, can't leave house, maybe not even bedroom agoraphobia. Your symptoms are, dizziness, chronic anxiety, bothered by loud noises, bothered by bright lights, feelings of falling over and having a sense of head shaking. Those are the ones I remember from when I had it. They were tossed on a island you have landed on this site. They were given limes you are given prism glasses.<br />
<br />
I have spent over 2 years telling you about your eyes being your problem. Are you going to be like the people of the 1700 and ignore my advice? Are you going to sit there and say I have 20 20 vision this can't be me? I didn't need glasses until I was 50 and that was only to read. Don't live in the past and believe everything you hear and read. How come it's easier to believe you have a mental disease instead of you need a pair of prism glasses because your eyes are misaligned and causing your agoraphobia. Maybe you just have a case of anxiety, prism's could also cure that. Don't put off the rest of your life.<br />
<br />

Hi – I am not a patient of Dr. Debby but my husband is. When I met Jeff 9 years ago, I thought that his habit of holding his head tilted to the side was just that – a habit, and one I thought was sort of adorable in a way. Just 2 years ago, he revealed to me that if he tried to hold his head straight, he would experience double vision! Alarmed, I took him to a top opthalmologist in the area, who discussed surgery and stated that not much could be done – this problem should have been attended to in childhood, not now at age 44.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px 10px 0px 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
I should also mention that my husband has for years been thought of as someone with a “short fuse” – easily irritated at seemingly minor things, and also never too comfortable in large crowds or big busy stores. He has been prescribed various anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medications over the years, none with any success. I prayed for an answer to his discomfort, still not connecting these problems with the vision issue. Then one day last fall, I saw an article – the drawing of a person with their head tilted to one side caught my attention, and after reading about Dr. Debby’s work, I immediately made Jeff an appointment.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px 10px 0px 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span id="more-470" style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px 10px 0px 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
IT’S A MIRACLE! The one I had been praying for! Jeff no longer tilts his head; he can see clearly for the first time in his life – and he has become a much calmer, more peaceful and happier person. I tried to imagine the constant irritation he must have felt for so long, not being able to focus properly and not knowing that this was the problem. Now that the problem has been corrected with his new glasses, things that used to bother him no longer do. And, he commented to me recently, “people are nicer to me now”. Imagine how others may have been perceiving a man with his head cocked to one side and slightly back – he must have looked as though he had an “attitude problem”!</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px 10px 0px 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Thank you, thank you Dr. Debby and staff for the wonderful things you have done for my husband and for me.</div>

<div id="ox-ed670c9de8-article" style="background-color: #a6c6ee; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="color: #3baf29; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, serif; font-size: 28px;"><span style="color: #385dae;"><strong>When you can't get off the carnival ride...</strong></span></span></div>
<div style="background-color: #a6c6ee; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;">Summertime is here. It’s a time for fun. Children and families flock to carnivals and amusement parks. Ferris Wheels – Roller Coasters – Tilt-a-Whirls and more. So much fun!</span></div>
<div style="background-color: #a6c6ee; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;">But, what if that sense of twirling and spinning is an everyday reality? How difficult would life be if it always felt as if you were on a carnival ride?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: #a6c6ee; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;">For many people who have eyes that do not work as a team, their world is an uncertain and sometimes scary place. They describe what they see as ‘swooshing’ – ‘swaying’ – ‘swimming’ in front of them. Things that are ‘still’ appear to bounce or jump. </span></div>
<div style="background-color: #a6c6ee; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;">This unwanted carnival ride appears when a person’s eyes are not perfectly aligned – something that is rarely obvious to others. How do you make this stop? At Vision Specialists of Michigan, the doctors fit patients with glasses that align their vision. With these special glasses, the only carnival ride will be the one you buy a ticket to ride.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: #a6c6ee; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; margin-bottom: 1em;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;">If you know of someone who is on this never ending carnival ride, have them take the questionnaire at <a href="http://www.smilereminder.com/sr/msg/1598131_0f5e6f440082efedb8dc9fca02c16921/link.do" rel="noopener" style="color: #007dbc; word-break: break-word;" target="_blank">isitmyeyes.com</a> and check out our blog at <a href="http://www.smilereminder.com/sr/msg/1598132_0f5e6f440082efedb8dc9fca02c16921/link.do" rel="noopener" style="color: #007dbc; word-break: break-word;" target="_blank">https://vision-specialists.com/blog</a>.</span></div>

<span style="color: #333333; font-family: q_serif, Georgia, Times, "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 15px;"> I am</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rKscXqdjZfE/WPEpUgxDRLI/AAAAAAAAAlQ/CLrTbPgz8KwoJ1WlqglhxJ-LOtV_Xt3AACLcB/s1600/life.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="198" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rKscXqdjZfE/WPEpUgxDRLI/AAAAAAAAAlQ/CLrTbPgz8KwoJ1WlqglhxJ-LOtV_Xt3AACLcB/s320/life.png" width="320" /></a></div>
78 and what I wish I had know from the beginning is that Love is the answer. Love and acceptance of each other and my fellow man. It’s not about me it’s about you. Acceptance of your right to be anything you want to be without judgement from me or anyone else. I might not like it or even want to be around it but it is your journey and you should have a right to go on it if that is what you want. After having said all that I realize that not many of us know what love is so that would be a starting point if you would like to take that journey. I started with the 13th chapter of 1 Corinthians, I printed it out , framed it and put it on my desk. Everyday I read it and try to really understand it. Love is not laying down and letting someone walk all over you, that’s more like hate. It doesn’t ask for the truth but is happy when it hears it. Love is more of a hoping everything goes well not an insisting that it goes that way. Love is not telling everyone how rich and wonderful I am, it’s more about how wonderful you are. Love is not trying to be the first in line it’s more about who should be the first in line and moving back so someone else who need it more should be there. Love is waiting patiently while you see the way your are going is wrong not insisting you go a different way. Love means you get angry but it take a lot before that happens. To sum up Love it is like sitting in the back seat and liking it and not having to ride shotgun.</div>

This easy-to-read guide for those seeking to overcome agoraphobia follows up on <i>My Silent Disability</i>, in which Yolanda Antonino described her trials as a wife and mother who could not leave her house without suffering crippling attacks of panic. Here, the author advances the theory that the root cause of agoraphobia—the fear of crowds or of open spaces—is actually a condition called Heterophoria or Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD) which, in the author’s words, occurs when “one eye sees higher or lower than the other eye.” This condition can be treated with eyeglasses fitted with prisms.</div>

To help others bypass years of ineffective treatment, the author includes a test with which readers can self-determine if they suffer from Heterophoria. She also provides a directory of the few doctors in the country who are able to treat this condition. Antonino then provides guidance related to the expectations for and use of prism glasses.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-top: -4px; padding: 0px;">
Antonino offers a message of hope to all those afflicted by the crippling fear of leaving the house and the physical symptoms that accompany this condition. Sufferers of migraines, traumatic brain injuries, or epilepsy could also find a light at the end of the tunnel.</div>

A subtle vision misalignment, when identified with a thorough medical history and treated with aligning lenses, may reduce symptoms for some vestibular patients.</div>

BINOCULAR VISION DYSFUNCTION AND VERTICAL HETEROPHORIA: A BRIEF HISTORY</h3>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Binocular vision dysfunction (BVD) encompasses a group of conditions where the two eyes have difficulty working together as a team, resulting in a vertical or horizontal (or both) misalignment between the line of sight of one eye with the other eye. When the amount of misalignment is large (strabismus or heterotropia) double vision or diplopia results. When the amount of misalignment is subtle (heterophoria), single or fused imagery is maintained, but at the cost of overusing the vision alignment mechanisms, resulting in medical symptoms instead of diplopia.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
As defined above, vertical heterophoria (VH) is a subset of BVD. Recently published research theorized that VH is occurring due to a lack of coordination between the two main vertical eye alignment mechanisms, the vision (or oculomotor) system and the balance (or vestibular) system, and that the initial problem is a faulty vertical alignment signal from the vestibular system.1,2 If left unchecked, this would precipitate vertical double vision, which would be poorly tolerated. The oculomotor system appears to be identifying the misalignment and correcting it. These repetitive cycles of misalignment / realignment appear to lead to an overuse of the eye alignment muscles, which can result in the symptoms of VH. These include dizziness, headaches, anxiety, neck pain and difficulty with balance and coordination.3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The body may also try to correct VH (i.e. to realign the images) by tilting the head, which can cause neck pain.</div>
<h2 style="border: 0px; font-family: museo-sans, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: -0.05em; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px 0px 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-transform: uppercase; vertical-align: baseline;">
CAUSES</h2>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The two main causes of VH are brain injury (e.g. TBI/concussion, stroke), and congenital causes. Both causes can occur at any age.</div>
<h2 style="border: 0px; font-family: museo-sans, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: -0.05em; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px 0px 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-transform: uppercase; vertical-align: baseline;">
WHY IS VH NOT BEING DIAGNOSED?</h2>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Although VH was first described in the 19th century12, the medical community has made little progress in identifying and treating this condition, most likely because the standard vision alignment tests are not sensitive enough to find these subtle misalignments1,2,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20. </div>
<h2 style="border: 0px; font-family: museo-sans, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: -0.05em; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px 0px 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-transform: uppercase; vertical-align: baseline;">
THE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF VH</h2>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The first step is to take a thorough medical history. VH has a very broad set of symptoms, many of which are not commonly appreciated by the medical community to be associated with a vision problem.</div>
<h4 style="border: 0px; color: #d7ac4d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; letter-spacing: -0.05em; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px 0px 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

<h4 style="border: 0px; color: #d7ac4d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; letter-spacing: -0.05em; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px 0px 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Establishing the diagnosis</h4>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Once a patient has been identified by their symptoms and/or physical findings as someone who may have VH, a complete ocular and vision exam is performed. Near sightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism must be identified and corrected prior to assessing the patient’s binocular vision status. Traditionally the next step in the assessment of VH involves the use of vertical alignment measurements such as vertical vergence, Von Graefe phoria testing at near and at far, cover test and red lens test. However, as previously mentioned, these tests are not sensitive enough to identify the subtle misalignments of VH1,2,13-20. To address this deficiency, an alternative technique for identifying the subtle vertical misalignment was developed. Named Prism Challenge, the technique consists of the incremental addition of small units of neutralizing vertical prism (usually 0.25D) to a trial frame containing the patient’s refractive prescription. The subtle vertical misalignment is identified (and the diagnosis of VH is established) when the patient, wearing the correct aligning (or prism) lenses for 10-20 minutes, experiences a marked reduction or even elimination of their VH symptoms. </div>
<h4 style="border: 0px; color: #d7ac4d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; letter-spacing: -0.05em; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px 0px 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Progressive Relaxation</h4>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
In patients with VH, the eye alignment muscles are tense and over-worked and cannot relax quickly enough to allow the patient to wear the full amount of realigning prism immediately. Therefore, the first prescription contains less than the full amount of needed prism, and is worn for approximately 2-4 weeks. This allows the eye alignment muscles to experience Progressive Relaxation, after which the patient will be able to accept the full amount of prism needed (which is incorporated into their second set of lenses). </div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Once treatment is completed (in about two visits), patients experience significant improvement, averaging an 80% reduction in symptoms.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<img height="242" src="https://vestibular.org/sites/default/files/figure%203.jpg" style="background: white; border: 0px; box-shadow: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.498039) 2px 2px 5px; float: right; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 5px; vertical-align: bottom;" width="200" /></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Since VH is often not identified, many patients suffer for years without the proper diagnosis and treatment. Some patients may be told that their symptoms are due to migraines, atypical Meniere’s, psychogenic dizziness, anxiety and panic disorders, ADD/ADHD, as well as other conditions. Treatment for these conditions typically yields inadequate relief of symptoms. </div>

CASE STUDY</h2>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Sarah, a mechanical engineer, was injured in a car accident in which she suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI). One year into her recovery she continued to experience a myriad of symptoms, including dizziness, headache, nausea, neck pain, eye strain, fatigue, and anxiety. She found it difficult to walk and drive and also had trouble focusing, reading, and writing. She received traditional treatment provided to patients with TBI but her symptoms did not improve.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
By the time Sarah was referred for a specialized binocular vision evaluation (NeuroVisual evaluation) she was two years into her recovery and had been through speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and vision therapy. Unfortunately, these treatments gave her only marginal relief from her symptoms. Sarah’s NeuroVisual evaluation revealed that she had a subtle vision misalignment (VH). She was prescribed aligning eyeglass lenses, and in a matter of minutes her symptoms were markedly reduced. Within one week her occupational therapist and neuropsychologist noted significant improvement. At the completion of treatment (8 weeks) her symptoms were reduced by 80% and she was able to live her life more fully, participating in many activities she wasn’t able to prior to wearing aligning lenses. </div>

Dr. Debby Feinberg and her research team have been researching VH since 1995, with the discovery that certain patients with dizziness actually had VH as the cause, and that treatment with aligning lenses immediately and markedly reduced symptoms.22 It was then discovered that some TBI patients with persistent post-concussive symptoms had VH and responded to aligning lenses with a 70-80% reduction of symptoms.23,24,25,26,27 It was also found that VH plays a role in certain patients with headache and anxiety.28,29 A case series of 126 patients with VH was presented at the semiannual Barany Society meeting May, 2016 in Seoul, S. In the top picture the eye is looking down it is not in alignment with the star.<br />
In the second picture the eye muscles strain to correct the misalignment, after much struggle it now aligns with the star. Most people can depend on their eye muscles to correct this problem to a certain extant but eventually the muscles get tired and start to give out. It usually take a traumatic event to totally give out. As we get older and stress starts to take over we start to have symptoms. Some babies have symptoms out of the womb. They are unhappy and no one knows why. Some have it happen in early child hood. I was 28 years old with two children when mine hit. I have other symptoms that but didn't pay much attention to them. Then sometimes it comes and goes. You seem to be doing fine may be for a year or so and then when some problem hits you start to feel dizzy, or anxious, or afraid and don't know why. This the eye muscle trying to regain alignment. It quivers and with that comes dizzyness. Eyes that are misaligned cause blurred or double vision. The brain does not tolerate blurred or double vision, so it forces the eyes to look at the exact same spot, so that only one image is seen. This is accomplished by straining the eye muscles to make one eye look up a little more, and the other eye to look down a little more. As the muscles strain, they become fatigued and jittery, and can no longer keep the eyes in the correct alignment. This "bouncing" in and out of alignment creates the feeling of dizziness, lightheadedness, vertigo and a sense of imbalance.<br />
What happenes to you when all of this starts happening? You retreat when the fight or flight response takes over. YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK! The threat to your survival is real. Can you understand now why you can't come out of the bedroom? It's like the soldier in the trenches, he is not leaving the trench until the all clear is called. The problem is this, there is never an all clear for the agoraphobic their always under attack. Sometimes all symptoms go away for a while only to come back with a vengence when a stressful time in your life happens. The older you get the harder it is for the muscles to keep the eyes aligned.<br />
By now I'm sure you have a few questions like, what, how did this happen to me? Does this happen to everyone? The medical community has adopted an "all in the family" attitude towards many disability's and diseases and this is one of them. Some have diabetes, cancer, autism, deformities the list goes on. So you might have had an Aunt Genevieve or an Uncle Joe that had something strange with them. Some cases of this condition may be caused by head trauma, stroke, or neurological disorders. Maybe some who have had some symptoms of agoraphobia have had a car accident or fell and this put them in full force agoraphobia. The eye muscles get jarred and become misaligned. In my family we have Diabetes and Heterophoria. More women than men have this condition, I am not sure why.<br />
Are you starting to understand now why you get overwhelmed or anxious in crowds or with driving? Some people have face pain, eye pain, TMJ problems, neck ache and upper back pain due to a head tilt. The head tilt is the body's way of trying to align the eyes. Look at pictures of yourself and see if your head is tilted to the side. I realize that a lot of us tilt our head in a picture but not in every one and not to the severe angle you will see. My head was so tilted it was almost flat. You might get motion sickness, nausea, poor depth perception, unsteadiness while walking or drifting to one side while walking. Lack of coordination similar to those seen in patients with MS, or stroke, and inner ear disorder or Meniere's Disease. Maybe you have reading symptoms such as difficulty with reading and comprehension, skipping lines while reading, losing one's place while reading, words running together while reading, similar to those seen with a learning disbility.You might have blurred vision, double or overlapping vision, shadowed vision, light sensitivity, difficulty with glare or reflection. Psychological symptoms such as feeling overwhelmed or anxious when in large contained spaces like malls or big box stores like WalMart. Feeling overwhelmed or anxious in crowds or with driving. Who knew! Thanks to the internet this information is available to everyone. The internet is God's gift to mankind. That is where I went when all else failed.<br />

Hi everyone, Happy Thanksgiving. Hope your day went well. With Agoraphobia nothing goes well most of the time. I am hoping you will read my latest book which will be out in a few weeks on amazon. Life can be good again and I will tell you all about it in my new book. It will be a continuation of my old book but with all the details of my old life left out. I will share with you how I found my way out of the rabbit hole of despair and what it took to keep going and get to the finish line. Before we can really feel joy, we must know sorrow. So maybe the sorrow you feel today will bring the joy you will feel tomorrow.<br />
<br />
Love you all. Yolanda<br />

Hi everyone, it has been a while since I have posted but I am working on my new book. It is going to be about my life without agoraphobia. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I am going to tell you how to proceed after you receive your prism glasses and what to expect. Also I will tell you what I still have trouble with and what is totally gone.<br />
I hope you are all reading the posts and are making a decision to get your eyes checked by a qualified eye doctor that understands this problem. Go to Vision Specialists of Michigan and call them for advise. They don't mind really. I have listed eye doctors in the different states that you can go to. I wish there were more but at this time there isn't.<br />

What I mean is do you ever notice when you are walking you seem to drift to the right or left? This is a sure sign you have vertical Heterophoria. Maybe you have never thought about it. There is so much going on with agoraphobia it is hard to sort them all out. Like when I was told that every time I had my picture taken my head was always tilted. In my case it was always tilted to the left. Why? This was so I could stop some of my dizziness. Did I think I was dizzy? Not really, it wasn't until I had my eyes examined for vertical hyperphoria and was asked if I was dizzy did I realize I really was dizzy. When I first came down with agoraphobia that is all I could say "I am so dizzy", then after a while after being told I wasn't I stopped describing myself as dizzy. Isn't it amazing what we do and feel and think when we are in complete panic mode most of the time. I was walking down the street the other day and realize I was drifting to the left. I corrected it right away and then thought about you guys and wanted to bring that to your attention. There really is no cure for Heteropohoria that causes agoraphobia but there really is a big help with prism glasses. It will let you live life as near as normal as you can get. Take the test on the right. Go to Vision Specialists of Michigan's site and get better.<br />
<br />
Love you all, Yolanda<br />

Everyone has a story of how and when their agoraphobia started. Most of us know down to the very day and hour with all the other details. How could you not remember the start of the worse day of your life. What is your story? Do you want to share if so I'll listen. Maybe other people would like to hear your story also. It's unique to you but maybe it will help someone else. After we have our worse period and come down with agoraphobia we start the blame game. Who is responsible for this! We blame ourselves then we head down into our child hood. We love to go there, after-all that is where most of the experts go. Maybe it was an abusive childhood, maybe we lost our parent, maybe we were abandoned or left alone or denied the list goes on and on. We spend our lives trying to get over real or imagined problems in our youth that led to this disaster. We never once think it could be a psychical problem. Maybe we were born this way! What! Then how come I didn't have this all my life? Because for the first part of your life, life was good. Then as life went on things happened to put a strain on life. Maybe a failed marriage, or a trauma of some sort, or the loss of a loved one. In my cast the straw that broke the camel's back was the death of my father in law. I wasn't even close to him. I only knew him for about 5 years. I was just 28 years old but it was enough to cause the end of my world. Then the suffering started for 40 years, yes 40 years. I was a half full kind of person all my life. Even though I lost my mother and father before the age of 6 I was just born with the need to find out things. To me everything has an answer, you just have to find it. But 40 years of suffering almost threw me over the edge. How I kept my self esteem through all that I don't know. How I even kept my mind is a mystery. I had a husband that stuck by me. I stuck by him because he was all I had. Any way that is all in the past and for the last 7 plus years life is good again. My searching for an answer has paid off and the rest of my life can be free of debilitating symptoms. For more of my story read "My Story" on the right. The best to all of you.<br />

What could my child be experiencing?</h2>

Your child might be suffering from Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD). With BVD, one eye sees an image differently (vertically, horizontally or both) than the other eye. The body corrects this by overusing and severely straining the eye muscles, causing the symptoms of BVD which include headaches, blurry vision, dizziness, difficulty with reading, learning and concentrating, and even anxiety in large spaces like malls.</div>

Why Does BVD often go Undiagnosed in Children?</h2>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 1.2em; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: 1.6em; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 1em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
When children enter school, they are given a standard vision screening. They are tested to determine how well each eye can see (visual acuity). You know the one—cover one eye, read the eye chart...cover the other eye, read the eye chart. They are also tested to see how well their eyes work together as a team (binocular vision) to identify major eye misalignment and double vision. The schools do not test for small amounts of misalignment. Any amount of eye misalignment can lead to reading and attention difficulties. Since BVD may affect up to 50% of children diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, reading and other learning problems, it is critical to test for even small misalignment amounts.</div>

Vision Specialists of Michigan patients undergo a detailed and thorough examination of their vision, including assessment for small amounts of eye misalignment (the NeuroVisual evaluation). Problems with near vision, far vision and alignment will be corrected using Vis-Align™ glasses, resulting in a reduction (or some-times elimination) of their symptoms.</div>

Yes the proof is in the prism glasses. I want to talk to you about a special proof that prism glasses really take agoraphobia symptoms away.<br />
About a year and a half my son and daughter in law went to see Dr. Debbie in Michigan. Maybe you remember I told you about their trip. Any way Dana needed 1 prism put into her glasses. At the time she felt she had some improvements in her health. She felt better some pains she always had seemed to disappear but in time she forgot all about these improvements. About two months ago she decided she needed a new pair of glasses to see better. I advised her to bring her prescription with her that she had received from Dr. Debbie and have them put that prism into them. She really didn't think it would matter. After wearing her new prism less glasses for about 2 months she realized a lot of symptoms she thought were gone were back. Then she realized it was the glasses! She went back to her old glasses and lo and behold the symptoms left. She truly is a believer now.<br />
She doesn't have agoraphobia or for that matter hyperphoria. But she has some discrepancy between her two eyes. Just enough to feel not quite right. HETEROPHORIA is measured in diopters most people with hyperphoria are at least 15 diopters off. I have over 9 prisms in my glasses. Dana had 1, so you can see there is a big difference but just that little bit made her feel better. How much better could you feel if you have been diagnosed with agoraphobia. This condition is called HETEROPHORIA. Don't go running off to your nearest eye doctor they can't help you. Dr. Debbie of Vision Specialists of Michigan is a pioneer in this field and the only one as of this writing who is dealing with this problem. Please read all the posts on this site for more information. Wishing you all the best, Yolanda<br />

What's a ZIPPY ZIP? Glad you asked. Here's a picture of a zippy zip.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have something very interesting to tell you about this. I like to watch Shark Tank and one night this item was shown. I thought Oh my Gosh this sound like an analogy of what I am trying to get across about your eyes. Here is how it works. When a baby is new born he is scared by a feeling of falling or unreality. Why? Because in the womb when he flings his hands he feels the sides of the sack he is in but after he's born he doesn't feel anything and wakes up because he is afraid. He has no borders to tell him he is alright. It's like driving you have to be able to see the white line in the middle or the edge of the road to be able to guide your self and know you are still on the road. What they do today is swaddle the baby, meaning they put a tight blanket around the baby including the baby's arms. After the baby gets older he manages to get loose of this wrapping and wakes himself because he can't feel the boundary any more. This brings on anxiety and fear. Does this sound like something you have?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That is the same way it is with our eyes! Because both eyes don't see the same thing at the same level it leaves us anxious and fearful. Not only that but the eye muscle keeps twitching and that leaves us with a feeling of being jerked back and forth. Like the baby we would just like to cry. We can't put a ZIPPY ZIP on our eyes but we can put prism's in glasses and bring our eyes into alignment and pretty much get rid of almost 85 to 95% of our symptoms. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The condition is called HETEROPHORIA it effects all of those who have AGORAPHOBIA!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now don't go running off to the eye doctor because he will probably tell you that you don't have this condition. Why? Because he was not told about it in eye school. He was told there is such a thing as one eye higher than the other but that the eye muscle would compensate for the difference. That may be true for a while but don't count on that information to hold for your whole lifetime.The only doctor who is a pioneer in this field is Vision Specialists of Michigan. www.vsofm.com. Click on the test on the right to see if your a candidate for happy rather than sad. I did it and wrote a book about it. Read it. I have had a very interesting life and I tell you the ups and down of where I was and where I'm at now.</div>

Love you all, Yolanda </div>

Yes I did it. After stressing out for over a year about taking a on road test for a new drivers license I did it. The last one I took was over 56 years ago. Yup you heard that right. My birthday is the 25th of May which is in 5 day but I took it two days ago.<br />
<br />
I have to tell you without my prism glasses there would have been absolutely no way. The worst part was the pre- anxiety before I went. Took me two day to come back down off the ceiling after this win.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WmDAgmKEmnY/Vz-7dAdZ3OI/AAAAAAAAAg4/rqMtKgb6M2YAcw04AgunUxPkUvRy9bbOQCLcB/s1600/there-hope-modified-one-way-sign-42417018.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WmDAgmKEmnY/Vz-7dAdZ3OI/AAAAAAAAAg4/rqMtKgb6M2YAcw04AgunUxPkUvRy9bbOQCLcB/s1600/there-hope-modified-one-way-sign-42417018.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Please click on the test on the right and see if you can start living your life again. It's never too late I am living proof of that. The hardest thing about getting the glasses is finding someone knowledgeable enough to test you. The best place to start is at "Vision Specialists of Michigan". They are now training new doctors in different states, maybe your state has one of these doctors. Just call them and tell them Yolanda told you to call. I'm one of their success stories.<br />
<br />
Love all you guys, Yolanda<br />
